The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has officially appointed Yevgeniy
Zhukov as the new Director General for Climate Change and Sustainable Development. This strategic leadership role is vital to strengthening ADB’s commitment toward a sustainable and climate – resilient future for the Asia
and Pacific region.
Zhukov, a seasoned development professional, brings over 27 years of experience across the
private sector, international organizations, and key positions within ADB. Since joining ADB
in 2001, he has held several prominent roles — most recently serving as the Director General
of the Central and West Asia Department.

In his new position, Zhukov will oversee departments focused on:
- Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management
- Environment
- Gender Equality and Social Inclusion
- Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Social Sectors
His appointment comes at a critical time as the region intensifies efforts to address climate
change and meet its sustainability targets. ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa expressed
confidence in Zhukov’s leadership, stating that his experience and vision will be instrumental
in accelerating ADB’s climate ambitions.
