In Short : Brookfield now owns Neoen Australia’s Collie Battery, which is formally operational. With a 560 MW and 2,240 MWh (2.24 GWh) capacity, it is the first battery system in Australia to surpass two gigawatt-hours.
Encouraging Large-Scale Solar Integration
By purposefully absorbing surplus rooftop solar energy, the Collie Battery evens out daytime generation peaks and efficiently controls the solar “duck curve.” It greatly surpasses other current systems, such as Victoria’s Big Battery, with over 20 times the storage capacity of the original Hornsdale battery.
Impact and Significance of Clean Energy
This project represents a significant advancement in Australia’s incorporation of renewable energy. It makes rooftop solar more effective, reduces the risk of curtailment, and encourages renewable energy to spread throughout the grid.
About the Project
One of the biggest battery storage facilities in the Southern Hemisphere is the Collie Battery, which was created by Neoen Australia and is currently managed by Brookfield. It has two interconnected stages. Early October is when it is expected to start grid-balancing and solar absorption operations.
