GREEN AMMONIA REACH A HISTORICAL LOW

How to Take Advantage of Low Green Ammonia Prices

FEATURED

In Short : With green ammonia prices reaching an all-time low in the nation’s first-ever auctions under the SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) scheme, India has made significant progress toward its clean energy targets.
With major energy companies like NTPC Renewable Energy, ACME Cleantech, and Oriana Power landing significant contracts, this is a watershed moment for the green hydrogen and sustainable energy industries.

Technological and Financial Innovation in Green Hydrogen
As a result of the auction, NTPC Renewable Energy was able to drastically lower the price of traditional gray ammonia by securing a supply of 70,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually at a record low of ₹51.80/kg.
With a capacity of 75,000 tonnes/year at ₹55.75/kg, ACME Cleantech was the largest recipient.
Oriana Power also received significant volume allocations, increasing the total amount of green ammonia capacity awarded to almost 200,000 tonnes yearly.
These advancements show how alternative energy sources in India are becoming more and more cost-effective and efficient.

Impact of Clean Energy and Climate Alignment
The green ammonia generated under this program will mainly serve the industrial and fertilizer sectors, providing a climate-friendly alternative to ammonia sourced from fossil fuels. In industries that have historically proven challenging to decarbonize, this will greatly lower carbon intensity.
Approximately 1.2 million tons of CO2 emissions are avoided annually, and over 300,000 tonnes of imported natural gas are eliminated through fossil fuel offsets. Renewable Power Use: Completely supported by wind and solar energy projects.

Expanded Function in the Energy Transition
In keeping with India’s goal of net zero emissions by 2070, this auction is regarded as a pivotal event in the country’s larger energy transition roadmap. Clean tech investments and international attention are being drawn to the government’s long-term commitment on green hydrogen generation and demand creation. Green Economy development. Decarbonization of essential industries. Employment growth in clean technology and renewable energy. Encouraging a fair transition to low-carbon industrial growth.

The Significance of It
The outcome of this auction marks a significant change in India’s capacity to combat climate change and develop renewable energy. Now that green ammonia is commercially feasible, industry have a clean substitute for fossil fuels, speeding up financial and environmental benefits. It also emphasizes how India is at the forefront of green hydrogen innovation, opening the door for sustainable energy solutions that guarantee environmental integrity, job creation, and resilience.
