In Short : A last extension has been given by India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the submission of research and development projects under the Green Hydrogen Scheme. With a new deadline of September 15, 2025, innovators will have more time to take advantage of this strategically significant financing window.

The Goal of Time Extension Is to Encourage High-Quality Submissions
This research and development program, which supports projects in all stages of the green hydrogen value chain—production, storage, and use—has now been expanded once more. The extension reflects the understanding that more time is needed to draw in strong, excellent bids, especially from research groups, entrepreneurs, and academic institutions. Remaining in line with India’s Green Hydrogen Mission, the funding is supported by an expenditure of ₹400 crores during FY25–26.
Impact and Significance of Clean Energy
India’s determination to accelerate its energy transition is reaffirmed by the extension of this deadline. It shows that the government is prepared to support innovation in environmentally friendly technology, particularly in cutting-edge fields like green hydrogen. MNRE is opening the door for scalable, low-carbon innovations to emerge from the R&D ecosystem, which is essential to achieving decarbonization and renewable energy targets, by offering a wider window for ideation and proposal development.
About the MNRE R&D Scheme
One of MNRE’s major projects to spur clean-tech innovation in hydrogen is the R&D Scheme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. It encourages focused, time-bound research in fields including green hydrogen production, storage, compression, transportation, and use.
