Increasing Infrastructure Through Wise Decisions
India’s Green Hydrogen Mission, which was started in 2023 with a budget of ₹19,744 crore, has already given 15 companies 3,000 MW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity and 19 companies 862,000 tons of green hydrogen production capacity annually. To further highlight its drive for more innovation and preparedness, the mission has authorized 23 R&D projects and has over 100 more in the evaluation stage.
State-Level Policies that Create Enabling Environments
Regional “hydrogen hubs” have been made possible by the 15 states that have announced their own green hydrogen policies. By facilitating land allocation, securing water supplies, encouraging the storage of renewable energy, and providing incentives for innovation, these policies foster an environment that is conducive to development and industrial involvement.

An important step forward in India’s energy revolution is this green hydrogen project. The country is establishing the foundation for decarbonizing difficult-to-abate industries including fertilizers, steel, transportation, and power by investing in both production capacity and skilled employment. Additionally, it boosts technological innovation, increases energy independence, and puts India in a leadership position in the developing green hydrogen economy on a worldwide scale.
