In Short : As part of the state’s current EV policy drive, Maharashtra will exclude electric passenger cars and e-buses from tolls on three important roads starting Friday: Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway), Mumbai–Pune Expressway, and Atal Setu.
Encouraging Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility
Both private electric four-wheelers and government/public transportation e-buses (with the exception of electric cargo vehicles) are eligible for this toll waiver. It supports the state’s plan to provide fast charging stations at gas stations, bus depots, and roads in an effort to reduce range anxiety and promote greater EV adoption.
Maintaining Cleaner Air and Cutting Down on Emissions
The goal of the legislation is to encourage the shift away from fossil fuel transportation, as there are currently over 43,000 registered EVs in Mumbai, including about 13,000 electric automobiles. Achieving 30% EV registrations for new cars and SUVs, 50% for aggregator cabs, and lowering 1 million tons of CO₂ and 325 tonnes of PM2.5 by 2030 are among the specific objectives.
Regarding the Electric Vehicle Policy of Maharashtra
The concept, which was first introduced earlier in 2025, offers toll exemptions on significant state routes and seeks to increase their number. With rigorous clean-mobility targets and pollution reduction strategies, it advocates for the integration of EV infrastructure throughout public transportation, housing, commercial areas, and highways.
