How to Understand POWERGRID KPS 1 & 2 License Process

POLICY & REGULATIONS

In Short : The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has awarded POWERGRID KPS 1 & 2 Augmentation Transmission Limited (previously Khavda V-B1B2 Power Transmission Limited) a 25-year interstate transmission license for its KPS1 and KPS2 substation augmentation program.

Supporting the Growth of Strategic Infrastructure

Under a Build–Own–Operate–Transfer (BOOT) architecture, the project entails erecting two 1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV transformers, one at KPS1 and one at KPS2, along with related bays. The yearly transmission price, which was awarded through a competitive bidding process by RECPDCL, is ₹698.58 million and is scheduled for commercial operation in February 2027.

Impact and Significance of Clean Energy

India’s interstate transmission network is strengthened by the extension, which is essential for improved integration of renewable energy sources and system resilience. The country’s larger energy transition goals are supported by improved electricity evacuation from generating hubs due to increased transformation capacity at KPS substations.
