Increasing Onsite Energy Production with a Solar Farm
In order to supply renewable energy to important UK facilities, such as its Halewood plant, Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, and Gaydon headquarters, the carmaker is building an off-grid solar farm. Together, the new array will produce about 120 MW, which is more than a quarter of the electricity demand in the UK and enough to power almost 44,500 houses a year.

This development complements JLR’s larger plan to increase self-generated solar energy capacity by 16 percent at key UK locations by combining ground-mounted arrays, rooftop panels, and solar carports. While EPMC’s solar capacity is anticipated to grow by 145%, solar projects at Gaydon are anticipated to provide about 40% of the energy needs.
Decarbonization in Line with Corporate Objectives
These advancements are essential to JLR’s “Reimagine” sustainability plan, which aims to achieve net-zero throughout operations by 2039 and a 46% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. The solar farm’s goals are to boost energy independence, reduce reliance on the grid, and protect against fluctuations in energy prices.
