Join the Model Solar Village Competition in Mysuru

FEATURED

In Short : The Central Government has chosen seven Mysuru villages—Varkodu, Bilikere, Gandhanahalli, Saligrama, Tandavapura, Mooguru, and Bettadapura—to participate in the Model Solar Village competition, which will take place from July 1 to December 31, 2025. The hamlet that integrates renewable energy the most would receive incentives of ₹1 crore.

Encouraging Local Strategic Growth

At the village level, solar adoption will be promoted by local Gram Panchayats under the leadership of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC). The PM’s Solar Rooftop Scheme includes rooftop solar panel installation; KUSUM promotes solar irrigation pumps; PPP or grants are used to put solar units on public buildings; and solar energy is used to power drinking water facilities and streetlights.

Maintaining Equity via Community Involvement

Rural communities are given the opportunity to actively engage in India’s renewable transformation thanks to this competition. It encourages shared ownership of clean energy projects by incorporating local government entities and citizens, guaranteeing that long-term change begins at the local level.

Impact and Significance of Clean Energy

By speeding up distributed solar deployment, the project helps India meet its larger climate and renewable energy obligations. Through a friendly district-wide competition, it demonstrates renewable adoption in action and offers other regions a scalable model.
