How to Leverage Green Ammonia Deals for Growth

INDIA

In Short : Oriana Power Ltd. won a long-term contract to supply Madhya Bharat Agro Products Ltd. in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, with 60,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually after winning the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) third green ammonia e-auction under the SIGHT initiative. The winning pricing of ₹52.25 per kg (≈ $0.59/kg) represents a further advancement in the use of green hydrogen for clean energy.

In order to strengthen India’s commitment to energy transition, net-zero emissions, and climate action, this auction is a component of a larger SECI tender that aims to aggregate 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually over 13 locations.

Why This Is Important for Cost Competitiveness:
Oriana Power’s bid, at ₹52.25/kg, represents a change from the typical grey ammonia cost of about $0.515/kg and is in line with earlier offers from NTPC REL (₹51.80/kg) and ACME Cleantech (₹55.75/kg), indicating that clean ammonia is becoming more and more commercially viable. Integration of Renewable Energy: To show a clear connection to renewable energy, solar power, and wind energy projects in the production process, the green ammonia that is given must be generated using renewable electricity, either from co-located solar/wind projects or purchased through power exchanges. Infrastructure Requirements: Under the SECI deal, Oriana Power must secure land, build the production plant, manage logistics and storage, and meet at least 90% of the yearly supply need.

The Strategic Advantages and Wider Consequences of Clean Energy Implications.
Different Types of Energy This green ammonia project demonstrates how alternative energy is becoming more and more prevalent in business. Climate Change and Decarbonization Green ammonia is a decarbonization technique that makes low-carbon, scalable solutions possible, particularly for industries like agriculture. Transition of Energy provides a noticeable transition from inputs derived from fossil fuels to industrial processes driven by renewable energy. Net Zero & Climate Action Promotes low-carbon fuels to help India achieve its goal of net-zero emissions and a green economy. Jobs & the Green Economy Building and running green hydrogen/ammonia plants can boost the workforce in renewable energy and provide jobs in clean technology. Efficiency of Energy Reduced carbon intensity is supported by effective long-term supply agreements and efficient production.

Oriana Power’s victory marks the beginning of a developing green hydrogen ecosystem in India, where green hydrogen, solar photovoltaics, and wind energy projects come together to provide cleaner industrial inputs and advance energy efficiency, climate action, and net-zero goals.
