In Short : Ormat Technologies and the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) have extended their current Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) by 25 years. Under the deal, utilities such as LADWP and IID will continue to receive 52 MW of geothermal renewable energy from the Heber 1 project beginning in February 2026 and continuing through 2052.
Supporting Growth and Stability in Renewable Energy
Ormat’s recent improvements at the Heber 1 plant, which included a repowering project that implemented air-cooled technology, are expanded upon by this addition. This contract offers a long-term, dependable energy supply that supports California’s sustainability objectives as part of the larger Heber complex, which now delivers 91 MW of clean, 24/7 baseload power.
Impact and Significance of Clean Energy
Due to its dispatchable nature, geothermal energy is crucial for a low-carbon and robust system. By providing reliable renewable electricity to more than 77,000 households in Los Angeles, this agreement helps California’s clean energy transition and makes a significant contribution to grid reliability and decarbonization goals.
