In Short : Karnataka is on the threshold of a biofuel revolution. All necessary foundational work and implementation guidelines for a new biofuel policy have been finished by the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB). With over ₹1 lakh crore in investments over the next five years, this audacious initiative hopes to spark a tremendous wave of sustainable energy solutions and greatly accelerate the construction of clean energy and renewable infrastructure throughout the state.

Encouraging Clean Energy and Rural Prosperity

Speaking during a celebration that merged World Biofuel Day, Renewable Energy Day, and Sadbhavana Day, KSBDB Chairman SE Sudheendra emphasized the policy’s revolutionary potential. The strategy is anticipated to increase farmer incomes, promote biofuel entrepreneurship among young people, and create over three lakh direct and indirect jobs in the upcoming years. The board is promoting deeper biofuel commercialization, improving the production of biodiesel and ethanol, and harmonizing with India’s broader energy transition framework through this statewide initiative. In particular, the board is utilizing sugarcane waste to produce power and ethanol-based energy.

The Second Green Revolution: Moving Past Fossil Fuels

By combining the new biofuel revolution with the Green and White revolutions, the policy represents a calculated continuation of India’s historical development trends. Santosh Kenchappannavar, Gadag’s Deputy Conservator of Forests, emphasized how sugarcane waste is being utilized more and more to produce ethanol and generate electricity, enhancing Karnataka’s energy security and climate resilience. This trajectory demonstrates how innovative renewable energy policies can interact with climate-smart agriculture practices, while also supporting the state’s clean energy revolution.
