In Short : The Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI) has granted a USD 5.7 million senior debt facility to the French renewable energy company Qair in order to finance the design, building, operation, and upkeep of a 5.8 MW floating solar plant in Providence Lagoon, Mahé, Seychelles. The Public Utilities Corporation of the country has a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the project.
Enhancing Offshore Renewable Hub Status and Strategic Innovation
This floating photovoltaic plant, which was created in collaboration with the local renewables company Vetiver Tech, will be the first utility-scale solar installation of its sort in Seychelles and among the biggest in Africa. Qair is able to enhance its regional leadership in clean energy deployment thanks to financial support from FEI, which is overseen by Cygnum Capital and supports both funding and operational readiness.
Maintaining Environmental Resilience and Energy Security
Land scarcity and a heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels are problems for island states like Seychelles. The floating solar array contributes to energy independence, stabilizes electricity costs, and supports the country’s 2030 goal of obtaining 15% of its power from renewable sources—a critical step toward sustainable growth.
